2. Visit Deal Castle

Built by Henry VIII in the 16th century, Deal Castle is one of the best-preserved coastal artillery fortresses in England. Step inside its circular walls, explore the tunnels, and soak up a slice of history right by the sea.

3. Discover Deal Pier

Stretching 1,026 feet into the Channel, Deal Pier is a favourite for fishing, strolling, and snapping photos of the coastline. At the end of the pier, you’ll find an amazing café and restaurant, Deal Pier Kitchen with unbeatable views back towards the town. Be prepared to queue on a sunny day, but it’s worth it: the brunch is amazing!

6. Relax in Walmer Castle and Gardens

Just a short walk from Deal is Walmer Castle, once the home of the Duke of Wellington (and the late Queen Mother). Its beautiful gardens, woodlands, and seaside views make it a perfect spot for a relaxed afternoon. Not to mention the coffee and cake is fabulous! But leave your furry friends at the house; no dogs are allowed in Walmer Castle.

7. Take a Coastal Walk

The Kent coast is a walker’s dream. Stroll north towards Sandwich Bay or head south towards Dover’s famous white cliffs. The England Coast Path offers endless opportunities to stretch your legs with stunning sea views. One of our favourite walks can be reached at the end of Kingsdown beach, climb the steps and walk along the cliff edge. The views are fabulous and if you’re lucky you’ll be able to see France! If you’re really lucky you’re phone might even connect to a French phone network!

8. Sample Deal’s Cosy Pubs

Deal has no shortage of traditional pubs where you can enjoy a local ale or a Sunday roast. Many are tucked away in the historic conservation area, offering bags of character and charm. Try The Ship on Middle Street, or take a walk along the sea front, through Walmer and into Kingsdown and head to The Zetland Arms.
